I am a Ukrainian game developer currently living in Winnipeg, Canada. I have been playing games on and off for my whole life, but my interest in game development started mainly in university where I got to make my own small game from scratch for a computer graphics class. I liked a lot of different subjects, but this one became my favorite so I decided to move in this direction after graduation.
Currently, I work remotely for a Ukrainian game studio Mauris where I have had the chance to work on several cool projects, learn from great people, and grow from an eager to learn inexperienced new grad to a still eager to learn but now a bit more experienced developer :)
When I was in high school, I participated in provincial level mathematics competitions, and scored in top 10 of my province (oblast' in Ukraine). So, when the time came to choose a career, I decided to go into Computer Science as it seemed to have the logical problems that I liked but also be more practical than pure mathematics.
At KPI I got a lot of knowledge beyond just coding. We did learn how to write clean good-quality code and design complex applications, but more importantly we learned that you should always think about the users first and make sure that what you're building has real value to people.
I think getting my Bachelor's from KPI was a very good choice also because of the variety of subjects, which allowed me to try myself in a lot of different things and led me to choose the direction that I really like now.
